WHY IT MATTERS

A photo can contain more than visible pixels

Phones and cameras may store capture time, device details, editing software, copyright information, and precise GPS coordinates inside an image file. Some services strip these fields during upload, while others preserve them.

PixGauge shows supported fields before removal so you can make an informed choice. A cleaned copy does not hide faces, signs, reflections, or other information visible in the image itself.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Photo metadata FAQ

Will removing metadata change the photo?

The existing compressed image data is copied without recompression. However, some photos rely on an EXIF orientation tag to display upright; after cleaning, check whether the downloaded copy appears rotated or mirrored.

Which metadata is removed?

PixGauge removes supported EXIF and GPS blocks, XMP packets, JPEG IPTC/Photoshop metadata and comments, and PNG text or time chunks. It preserves color profiles and ordinary image data.

Does this guarantee anonymity?

No. The visible image may still reveal people, places, documents, reflections, or other identifying details. Metadata cleaning addresses only supported information stored inside the file.
