THE FORMULA

Diameter minus the handle area

printable width = (diameter × π) − handle clearance

The circumference describes the distance around the mug, but the handle interrupts that surface. Subtract the total unprinted gap you want around the handle, then add bleed outside the finished edges.

If the manufacturer supplies a printable width, choose that method and enter it directly.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Mug-wrap FAQ

How much space should I leave around the handle?

There is no universal amount. Leave enough unprinted space for your press, transfer method, and preferred appearance, and follow the blank supplier’s instructions.

Can two 11 oz mugs use different wrap sizes?

Yes. Capacity alone does not guarantee identical diameter, printable height, handle position, or press coverage. Measure the blank you will actually decorate.

What resolution should mug artwork be?

300 PPI is a dependable target for detailed artwork and text, while 240 PPI is often still very good. The image checker reports the effective resolution at your exact template size.

Why should I print a paper test?

A 100%-scale paper test can reveal a wrong width, height, handle gap, or printer scaling setting before you use transfer material.
